Fundraiser description
You look at your 10-year-old child, fit, full of joy, and healthy. Imagine that she will suddenly fall down in a moment, and nothing will ever be the same… An indescribable tragedy happened to our family. An unpredictable brain haemorrhage almost killed our Margaret. It was a miracle that she survived. We have been fighting for more and believe that she will return to us. We are begging you for help to wake Margaret up!
It happened on Sunday, 27 March. We slept longer this day and ate our breakfast after 11 am. We were all about to go to church—my husband and me, older son and daughter. No one would have thought that day was the beginning of our world’s end.
Margaret felt thirsty before leaving home. While she was opening a bottle of water she suddenly lost her conscience and collapsed on the armchair!
In one moment, fear filled my whole body. Everything happened so fast. A medical helicopter took our daughter to the hospital that was 100 km away. We were in shock.
While we were driving there, Margaret was being examined. The CAT scan showed a massive brain haemorrhage, and the left hemisphere was covered in blood. Her condition was critical, and we had no idea what would happen next.

How is it possible that the child who used to practice flips in the living room in order to get an “A” at school is now fighting for life? We all had a feeling this was just a nightmare that would end as soon as we woke up, and Margaret would joyfully leave home and go for a bike ride, as always.
Unfortunately, doctors’ further diagnoses were like bullets. There was nothing else they could do, and we had to wait. It is still a miracle that she is alive. Most of the children in this condition die within seconds from the stroke.
We waited and hoped she would survive until the next day or week. And she was still with us, fighting! We were praying for her to stay strong and not give up. Finally, after three weeks, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. After another examination, the radiologist suggested that we search for a different hospital with a neurosurgery unit. It could be the only solution to wake Margaret up and perform a surgery to close a blood vessel in her brain.
A month later after this tragic event, on 27 April, Margaret was transported to the Children’s Memorial Health Institute in Warsaw. Her condition is still critical. However, the doctors already got her off a mechanical ventilator and transferred her from the ICU to the neurosurgery ward. Since then, I’ve kept an eye on my daughter, and I’ve been her caregiver. I had to deal with this situation, and somehow I still do. There is a long journey ahead of us, though.

Everything seems so recent, and wounds are too fresh. It hasn’t even been two months since the accident happened. Margaret is no longer on medications, and should wake up soon, yet she’s still asleep. The doctors do not know the reason for that. It may be because of the medications or brain damage. We have to keep on waiting.
If everything goes according to plan, we would like to take our daughter to the facility that specialises in waking children up from a coma. We have already found the best place, the price of treatment is horrifying, though. A monthly therapy is minimum 19 000 Polish zlotys. And for how long Margaret will have to stay there? It really scares us.
We didn’t search for help. In the worst time of our lives, it turned out that there are so many people with great hearts around us. They give us strength when it’s terrible. We don’t surrender, though, we will do everything for Margaret, and we are asking you for help. We all believe from the bottom of our hearts that Margaret will survive! We are praying for another miracle. Please, stay with us.
